Masia Egara (CA N'AMAT DE LA MUNTANYA) is a mansion or Catalan Country House set in nearly 750 acres of farm and woodland 25 Km. Nothwest of Barcelona.
In the midst of this land is the Masia, of typically Catalan construction, dating from the 16th century. Masia Egara has been owned by the same family without a break for the last 500 years. Originally farmers, the family became textile industrialists in the 18th century.
The present owner, Alfonso Sala holds the title of Count of Egara. This honour was granted to one of his ancestors. Both the family and the Masia itself have always been linked with the Spanish Crown and Catalan history.
There have been famous guest at Masia Egara. Among them are the former royalty, King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia, grand parent of the present King Juan Carlos, who has also honoured the house with Queen Sofía.
Another famous guest was Salvador Dalí, who signed the family guestbook with a drawing.The building is in a perfect state of preservation and the interior is furnished with exquisite furniture and paintings. Styles rang from the XVIth century to Modern Art.
The house is surrounded by nearly 10,000 acres of beautiful park and grounds, which were designed over 100 years ago and are some of the most beautiful gardens in Catalonia.
